Book review: The Commoner
My co-worker lent me a great book. She was reading it at work and couldn't put it down. It is called The Commoner:A Novel by Jonh Burnham Schwartz. The book is about the royal family of Japan or to be more specific the women of the family. The author tells it from the point of view of the first commoner who became an Empress. It isn't a romance but a wonderfully written book about how the daily life and toils of an outsider coming into such an intimidating institution. Japan's royal family is looked upon like god's and it is because of this status that makes them so intimidating. This book gives us an insight on the struggles of the young lady and how she can relate to her son's chosen bride, another commoner. It seems a bit like an autobiography but it is purely fiction that was well researched. I highly recommend this book!
