Spinning Wheel

You ever watched a guinea pig or hamster running around in their wheel? All they do is get in and run, but they're not going anywhere. They are exerting all this energy and for what? Where are they going? The wheel is stationary and there is no where to go but still the animal gets in and runs. Well work has felt like that this past week. I got a trainee and not much of a direction of where exactly I'm supposed go with this person other than that we're the guinea pig of the "new" program. I felt like that hamster or guinea pig in a cage, running on a wheel that goes nowhere, exerting all this energy and brain power. But today I got some form of direction...at last!

It wasn't much but it gave me enough direction...for now. This reminds me of how we sometimes act with God' s plan. Can you imagine the Israelites wandering around the desert for forty years when the 'Land of Promise' was so close? There must have been times when they felt like they were in a hamster wheel, walking around in circles around that desert. But God gave them direction it just wasn't all at once, I guess that is what all those verses about the camp moving from one spot to the other was about. I used to think that sometimes those parts of the Bible just seemed to pointless. Why did God include this in His Word? What was their importance? But there are days in our life when it just seems like we are going from one place to another without much direction other than knowing you are to continue with living life TODAY. And lately that is what I've been feeling, but like Dr. Panosian used to tell us before a History of Civ. Test "this too shall pass". And perhaps around the next corner will be an adventure, a new found friend or time with an old friend...the possibilites are endless!

Freshman year memories

I was cleaning out some stuff under my bed and found a photo album with some pictures from my Freshman year. This picture was when our prayer group decided to help our PC (prayer captain) celebrate her 21st birthday. Of course we had to stick to the school rules and no real alcohol was used but the bottles of ABC rootbeer did look real enough. I remember Vera timed it so that we got the stuff out before the bell rang for study time and Kristalyn just shook her head at us and tried to reprimand us but couldn't really keep a straight face.

Then there was two of my unforgetable roommates that year:

Here is a picture of Ratchet in some domestic duties. She totally amazed me that she could sew a button on! =) Of course she wasn't too happy with me taking the picture but I was camera crazy. There were all those people telling me before I left home that I should relish and savor the college years since you never get them back. And what better way to capture those memories for a lifetime than putting them on film?

And then there was Vera who was the opposite of Ratchet. Here she is showing us some Russian jig of some kind. I remember our Prayer Group that year was rather diverse, we had Vera from Russian, Ruth from Africa, Tali from Latin America, Joanna from Hawaii and me from the Philippines not to mention your diverse Americans: Courtney from Texas, Sarah from Pennsylvania, Ratchet & Allison from the Peninsula of Delaware and Maryland, Krystalin from Greenville and Joy from New England.

Of course we couldn't resist playing a trick on our APC, Vera. One day when she went to take a
shower we took all her towels and bathrobe and hid them in our room. She had to use the shower curtain as a cover to run back to the room! (We made sure that it was the day after white glove so that the curtains were clean and useable, otherwise it was a bacterial free for all on that curtain!)

I loved it when Spring came to BJU. That meant that the cherry blossoms would come out and there was plenty of them around the Science Building. This was taken around Easter and the petals fell down like snow. Here Shorty (aka Faith), Ruth and I are posing in front of our dorms.

Little legs make quick run

My mom took her daycare kids to Chuck E. Cheese today. Six little ones with two adults and already the odds are against us! It's amazing how those short little legs of theirs can get them to move around so quickly. I spent most of my time chasing after them trying to keep them together in the same area. By the time we got home I was more than ready for naptime! The kids themselves were exhausted and went right to bed. Not a bad way to get them to exert their energy so you can get a moment's peace.

Happy Single Awareness Day!

My personal recipe to help get through the day:

1.Chocolates: Rocky Road Ice Cream, Parisien Chocolate Bar made out of 80% cocoa and Kit Kat's (these are my personal favorites!) but anything with at least 60% cocoa will do.

2. Drinks: a soothing herbal tea, hot cocoa or something sparkling and bubbly (I like Martinelli's Sparkling Cider since I'm not allowed bring Champagne in the house)

3. Movies: An Affair to Remember (the original version with Carey Gant and Deborah Kerr), A Roman Holiday, Return to Me, Sabrina (the updated version with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond), While you were Sleeping, Sleepless and Seattle, Pride & Prejudice (the BBC version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle), Emma, Much Ado about Nothing

4. Box of tissues: after watching all those nice romantic movies your eyes should be red and head aching for bed

5. HOPE : the most important thing to remember at the end of the day.
Psalms 31:24 "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen you heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."
Lamentations 3:26 "It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord"

**And remember you are loved by the greatest lover, God. Jeremiah 31:3 "Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefoer with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."

Full moon weekend

There is plenty of myths and ledgends involving a full moon and its effect in people. For example: the homicide rates go up, there are more traffic accidents, crisis calls to police or fire stations increase, more domestic violence, suicide occurs more around a full moon, psychiatric admissions or ER admissions increase, more assaults, gunshot wounds, and stabbings.Well I pretty much had that kind of a week! It was crazy busy until Monday night when the moon completed it's orbit and we had a moonless night. One nice thing is that I enjoy working with most of my coworkers and the field units so they made the work week bearable. There was a point durign the weeek where I had a phone in each ear and was juggling to do three things at the same time (and this happened more than once!), and yet I can't even juggle three oranges! LOL But being busy did make the night go by faster and that helped.
